CCISD logoWe would like to make our Calhoun County ISD families aware of a new state law, regarding the use of personal communication devices during the school day. Please take a moment to review the new Texas Law – House Bill 1481.

In summary, the law says that students may not use cell phones and other personal communication devices (smartwatches, tablets, radio devices, paging devices, or any other electronic device capable of telecommunication or digital communication) during the instructional day, and that schools must adopt and enforce policies accordingly. The bill does provide exceptions for students with documented medical needs or special education accommodations, which will be addressed in accordance with the appropriate plans and guidelines.

Calhoun County ISD is reviewing and updating current policies to align with the new law, which goes into effect during the 2025-2026 school year. In the meantime, we encourage our families to begin sharing the information with their students, so we can all be on the same page and prepared for a distraction-free school environment. We appreciate the partnership and support from our families as we continue to strive towards high achieving student outcomes.
