CREDIT BY EXAMINATION: STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES TO "TEST OUT OF CLASSES" DURING THE SUMMER
Posted on 04/12/2023

The state’s education law, the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), allows Calhoun County ISD public school students to obtain credit in a course or grade level by passing tests approved by school district trustees. Texas law, 19 TAC Chapter 74, allows students to "test out of a course" by taking a “Credit by Examination" without prior instruction in the course(s) being tested. To earn credit for a subject, the student must answer 80% of the test questions correctly . In accordance with local school district policy, a student in Grades 6-12 may be given credit for an academic subject in which he or she had some prior instruction if the student scores 70% on the assessment. These tests are rigorous, and they target all the objectives for the courses covered.

Credit by Examination assessments will be administered in Victoria through Region 3 ESC on June 28th, June 29th, and 30th, 2023, and again on July 19th, 20th, and 21st, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on each date. Credit by Exam registration applications may be picked up from the counselor at your student’s school. Seats for these exams are limited, so please do not delay.

THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT REGISTRATION FORMS TO THE CAMPUS COUNSELOR IS MAY 26, 2023.
