CCISD names principals for Calhoun High School and JR Elementary

The Calhoun County ISD Board of Trustees named two principal positions during the April 11 school board meeting. After weeks of careful consideration, Dana Dworaczyk was selected to serve as principal of Calhoun High School, and Julie Duckett-Casey was selected to serve as principal of JR Elementary.

Ms. Dworaczyk has 28 years of experience in public education and currently serves Calhoun High School as director of the Career & Technical Education program, as well as assistant principal. She has previously served as principal of Port O’Connor Elementary, and before moving into an administration role, Ms. Dworaczyk taught math at Calhoun High School. She was also an adjunct professor for Victoria College and University of Houston. She is a Calhoun High School graduate with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

Mrs. Duckett-Casey has 16 years of experience in public education, and currently serves HJM Elementary as assistant principal. She started her teaching career at JR Elementary, and later transferred to HJM Elementary before becoming an administrator. She is also a Calhoun High School graduate with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

Ms. Dworaczyk and Mrs. Ducket-Casey are working with school administration to ensure a smooth transition into their new roles, which officially begin at the conclusion of this school year.

In other business, board members also:

  • Approved budget amendments that included an increase for the cost of fuel
  • Accepted the donation of a house from Formosa Plastics, which will be used for teacher housing
  • Approved the purchase of additional chromebooks to replace broken or expired equipment
  • Approved a bid to renovate the visitor’s dressing rooms at Sandcrab Stadium
  • Approved a bid to reroof the main building of Calhoun High School
  • Authorized the district’s instructional material allotment and TEKS certification
  • Approved employment contracts
