Safety drills scheduled
Posted on 11/03/2022

Last month, the Port Lavaca Police Department provided safety training to our Calhoun County ISD teachers and staff. The session focused on a civilian’s response to an active shooter event.

This month, all Calhoun County ISD campuses will host safety drills during the school day. Teachers, staff, and students will practice following the process of a school lock-down scenario. The drill will not involve weapons or simulation of an active shooting. Some grade levels may choose to practice securing doors, in an age-appropriate way.

We are sharing this schedule and information with parents, so we can ensure our students understand that the scheduled safety drill is just for practice so that everyone is better prepared in the case of a real emergency. Parents with questions or a request for further information may reach out to their campus principal. We appreciate the partnership with our families and community to keep Calhoun County ISD safe and secure.

In the event of a real emergency, Calhoun County ISD will utilize the School Messenger notification system to communicate with parents. To sign up for text messages from Calhoun County ISD, please text the letter “Y” to the number “67587”.

Here is a description of the types of school emergencies, processes, and terminology.
