Calhoun High School named District 26 Academic UIL Champions

Calhoun High School dominated at the District Academic UIL meet on March 26, and defended their championship title for 8th consecutive year.

Calhoun finished this year’s meet with 744 total points earned, while the second place team finished with 301 points. Calhoun has a history of strong performance in Academic UIL, having won the district championship the past 15 out of 16 attempts.

Team results:

In Accounting, Athippagna Sok placed 1st, Kristal Guerrero placed 2nd, and Bryan Diggs placed 4th individually. They placed first as a team.

In Calculator Apps, Kary Xu placed 1st, Doreen Luo placed 2nd, Jeffrey Liu placed 3rd, and Tammy Zhang placed 4th individually. Their team placed 1st overall.

In Current Issues, CJ Sanchez placed 3rd and Julio Cacho placed 4th individually. Their team placed 1st overall.

In Computer Apps, Cassandra Gordillo placed 2nd, Hser Paw placed 3rd, and Cheyenne Brumlow placed 4th.

The Journalism team placed first as a whole. In Copy Editing, Tanya Casados placed 1st and Brilee Crittenden placed 3rd individually. In Editorial Writing, Tanya Casados placed 2nd and Brilee Crittenden placed 3rd individually. In Feature Writing, Tanya Casados placed 3rd, Sydney Sun placed 5th, and Brilee Crittenden placed 6th. In Headline Writing Tanya Casados placed 2nd and Brilee Crittenden placed 3rd. In News Writing Sydney Sun placed 1st, Tanya Casados placed 2nd, and Brilee Crittenden placed 6th.

In Computer Science, Ian Chen placed 1st, Kary Xu placed 2nd, Jeffrey Liu placed 3rd, and Seth Sandberg placed 4th. Their team placed 1st overall.

In Informative Speaking, Dakota Dalton placed 4th.

In Literary Criticism, CJ Sanchez placed 2nd. Their team placed 1st overall.

In Mathematics, Stacy Zhang placed 1st, Kary Xu placed 2nd, Ian Chen placed 3rd, and Jeffrey Liu placed 4th. Their team placed 1st overall.

In Number Sense, Stacy Zhang placed 1st, Kary Xu placed 2nd, Ian Chen placed 4th, and Jeffrey Liu placed 5th. Their team placed 1st overall.

In Persuasive speaking, CJ Sanchez placed 3rd.

In Prose, Dakota Dalton placed 1st.

In Ready Writing, Kyler Sanders placed 2nd and Celeste Kwi placed 3rd.

In Science, Stacy Zhang placed 1st, Kyler Sanders placed 2nd, Jeffrey Liu placed 3rd, Ian Chen placed 4th, and Tammy Zhang placed 6th. Kyler Sanders took top Biology. Jeffrey Liu took top Chemistry. Doreen Luo took top Physics. Their team placed 1st overall.

In Social Studies, Julio Cacho placed 1st and Sydney Sun placed 5th. Their team placed 1st overall.

In Spelling, Evan Lin placed 1st, Arin Lin placed 2nd, Kary Xu placed 4th, and Mariana Quiralte placed 5th. Their team placed 1st overall.
