The Lady Fiddlers 8th grade A team continue to be undefeated beating Patti Welder Thursday the 5th. Their awesome defense held the Panthers to two points in the first half, and they finished the game 37 – 12. Highlights of the game were: Jackie Brumfield – 5 steals, defensive MVP. Miranda Moya – 4 steals, offensive MVP. Kelsey Tidrick, Tishona White and Lexi Kurtz 3 rebounds. Congratulations on your first win of the New Year!
The Lady Fiddlers 8th grade B team started off their New Year with a victory Thursday night against Patti Welder. The Lady Fiddlers defeated Patti Welder 24-12. Final stats for the night were: Alejandra Villalon – 8 pts, 2 steals, and 2 rebounds; Savannah Cantu – 6 pts, 2 steals, and 4 rebounds; Jocelyn Garcia 3 pts and 2 rebounds; Robyn Stringo – 4 pts, 1 steal, and 1 rebound; and Haley Morales with 1 pt, 1 steal, and 5 rebounds. The Lady Fiddlers play Howell next at the Stroman Tournament.
The A team beat the Lady Panthers with a score of 48-8. Results were:Martina Stavinoha 18 pts, Abby Hroch 24 pts,Alex Iglesias 7pts, Savannah Woodward 6 pts, Genesis Villarreal 2 pts and Alexis Alvarado 1 pt. Allysah de los Santos, Alexis, Genesis and Abby had 2 assists each. Alexis and Genesis had 7 steals each, Alexis , Genesis, Martina and Abby had 2 forced turnovers each and Martina and Abby led in rebounds with 10 each followed by savannah with 8.
Thursday Night the 7th grade traveled to Victoria to play the Lady Panthers of Patti Welder. The B team won 30 – 6. Results were as follows: McKayla Cortez 14 pts, Sara Ybarba 10 pts, Auria Riser 4 pts, and Bar Htoo 2 pts. McKayla was top in steals with 8 followed by Auria and Sara with 7 each. McKayla had the most assists with 3 followed by Ali Kalisek and Sara with 2 each. It was a great Team effort with a lot of hustling.
Congratulations to both teams. The B teams will play in their tournament this weekend at Stroman.
Last weekend the 7th B team participated in the Cade Bulldogs Basketball Tournament. On Friday they played Howell and won 28 – 2. Then on Saturday they played Patti Welder first and won 39 – 2, this win took them to the finals against Seadrift. They lost 31 – 18. This gave them 2nd place in the tournament. Results of the tournament are: McKayla Cortez 24 pts, Auria Riser, Sara Ybarbo 22 pts each, Bar Htoo, Eli DeLeon 6 pts each, Ruby Villarreal 4 pts, Kaysen Vickery 1pt. McKayla led in Steals with 27 followed v=by Bar wuth 16, Auria had the most forced turnovers with 7 and Kaysen 5. Sara brought down 25 rebounds followed by Auri 17. It was a Great Team effort by everyone, Congratukations. They will start the 2nd round of play next Thursday against Cade.
This past weekend the 8th grade B Lady Fiddlers were in the Stroman Tournament where they won Consolation. The Lady Fiddlers played their first game Friday evening against Howell and lost 28 – 36. The Lady Fiddlers bounced back from the defeat and played two excellent games on Saturday. The Lady Fiddlers defeated Stroman 26 – 4, and Cade, 21-12. Defensive MVP was Savannah Cantu and Offensive MVP was Alejandra Villalon. Two other young ladies who derseve to be recognized are Haley Morales who received the Hustle Award, and Jocelyn Garcia who received the Team Player Award. Others who shined this weekend were Jackie Trevino 3 pts and 7 rebounds; Miranda Smith 6 pts, 6 steals and 4 rebounds; Jessica Vega 19 pts and 14 steals; Oriana Cantu 9 43bounds; Heather Adame 4 steals; Katrina Escobar 3 steals and 9 rebounds; Melissa Rodriguez 2 pts, 1 steal and 3 rebounds. Now half way through the season the 8th Grade B Lady Fiddlers record is now 6-2. Both 8th grade teams will travel to Cade Thursday starting at 5:00.
