7th Grade Black team vs. Patti Welder
The Fiddlers ended the season on the best note possible, a win and a shutout against Patti Welder. A game that was dominated by our defense, ended with a 22-0 score after offense sprinkled in a few good drives. Overall, a great team win and a great way to end the Fiddler’s season.
Dylan Byrd intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown the very first defensive possession. Seth Flores added on two fumble recoveries caused by the stingy defense in the first half.
Noah Bonuz had some great runs in the first half, including a 25 yard touchdown run. Joey Barrett added the 2 point conversion. Seth Flores did his part running the ball as well adding many good runs to help us move the ball down the field. 16-0 at the half.
Defense started off the second half with an 8 yard sack by Dylan Byrd and another 10 yard sack by Fernando Almaraz to shut down the offense quickly.
In the 4th quarter, Dylan Byrd scored a 5 yard touchdown for our final points of the game. Defense held strong the rest of the game with a big hit and caused fumble by Fernando Almaraz. Their offense wasn’t able to do a whole lot with the plays we were making.
The Black team Fiddlers ended the season with a great final victory and a final record of 4-2-1. Great job to our Fiddlers and as always, it’s a great day to be a Sandcrab!
Travis 7th Gold vs. Patti Welder
The Travis 7th Gold team finished up a strong season with a 24-0 win over Patti Welder at Patti Welder Stadium in Victoria. The win was the sixth in a row for Travis and they finished the season 6-1.
The Fiddler defense got off to a fast start when a big hit on the quarterback resulted in a fumble and a Christian Baldera recovery. The Fiddlers only needed 3 plays to reach the endzone and Baldera’s 25 yd run put them up 6-0. The Travis defense added a safety on the next drive making the score 8-0. Later in the first quarter after a 3 and out for the panthers, Baldera added his 2nd touchdown of the night when he took a pitch around the outside for a 30 yd touchdown run. That raised the score to 14-0, and Dallas Trevino’s conversion run made it 16-0. In the 2nd quarter Gabe Ramirez rumbled 20 yards up the middle for a touchdown, increasing the lead to 22-0. Wally Reyes punched in the conversion making the score 24-0. The defense played great all night, and Dallas Trevino again did a good job of directing the offense. There were plenty of big hits from both teams all night. The fiddlers were shut out in the second half, but moved the ball at will all night. Every player was able to contribute on both sides of the ball, and did a great job. We are really proud of the way the guys bounced back after a week one defeat, and winning 6 straight is a great way for those guys to get some momentum going into next year, They were a great group to coach and improved every week.
Defensive standouts: Daniel Leita, Joe Sanchez, Hugo Alvarez , and Joseph Galloway
Offensive standouts: Dallas Trevino, Wally Reyes, Christian Baldera, and Gabe Ramirez

Travis Gold 20 vs. Patti Welder 34
The Travis Gold team closed out their 2011 football season with an exciting game that unfortunately resulted in a loss. The offense started their first drive of the night with a 12 yard run by Raheem Jones. Andrew Holsey and J.C. Garcia had several runs of 10 yards or more on the opening drive and Jones would eventually put it in for the score on an 8 yard run. Trailing 12-6 late in the 2nd quarter, Jones broke loose on a 60 yard touchdown run to tie up the game. Mistakes right before the half cost the Fiddlers to give up 2 more touchdowns quickly to make the game 12-26 at the half. Both teams’ defenses stiffened up in the 2nd half. Matthew Lerma, Andrew Holsey, and Preston Salinas each had 3 tackles on the night. J.C. Garcia came up with an interception on a pass that was deflected by Jesse Herrera. After giving up another touchdown and trailing by 3 touchdowns, the pursuing kickoff was run back 30 yards by J.C. Garcia. Jones would add the 2 point conversion. The Fiddlers would have more opportunities in the 2nd half to score but penalties and mistakes would ruin those opportunities. Although they came up with a loss, the gold team played with great effort and stayed in the game that could have easily gotten out of hand. The gold team finishes their season with a record of 3-4.
