Welcome to the Calhoun County Independent School District (CCISD) Alternative Education Program (AEP) web site. The CCISD AEP operates three individual programs designed to meet the needs of students who, for a variety of reasons, are either not achieving the desired level of success in the regular education program provided by CCISD, or whose personal situations prevent participation in the regular program. These programs include:
Hope High School
For most students, Calhoun High School provides a world-class educational experience. However, for some students, a large public high school just doesn’t work very well, for a variety of reasons. Hope High School was created to address the needs of CCISD students who need a different educational environment. At HHS, each student can receive the individual attention and assistance necessary for that student to succeed and move forward. As much as possible, HHS works to accommodate the particular situation of each of our students to help them become the architects of their own futures. Our goal for each Hope HS student is that he or she will graduate with a Texas high school diploma as quickly as possible, allowing the student to move on to the next step on the ladder of life, whether that is college, vocational training, military service, or the workplace. Life is about choosing goals, making plans to achieve those goals, and following through on the plans we make. At Hope High School, we choose to succeed, and with each student, we develop an individual plan to achieve the success goal of a high school diploma.
The FLEX Program
The FLEX program is the CCISD Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP). FLEX is housed on the Hope High School campus and administered by the Hope High School principal. Students are assigned to the FLEX program when their behavior on the Calhoun High School, Seadrift School, or Travis Middle School campus has become disruptive to the point of depriving teachers of the ability to teach and other students of the opportunity to learn. Students will also be placed in the FLEX program if they are reasonably believed to be involved in certain criminal activities, whether on or off school property. The goal of the FLEX program is to redirect student behavior and to inculcate good work habits and social skills. The FLEX charter is to return each student to his or her home campus as a better student and better school citizen.
The In-School GED Program
New to the HHS campus for the 2011-2012 school year will be the In-School General Educational Development (GED) program. This is a recent development, and we’ll provide more information about GED on this website as we establish and refine the program.
I look forward to a rewarding and successful school year. It’s a GREAT day to be a Bulldog!
