Welcome to the Texas Gulf Coast! Travis Middle School, home of the Fighting Fiddlers, is located in Port Lavaca off of State Highway 35 roughly half-way between Corpus Christi and Houston. Travis MS is one of two middle schools in the Calhoun County Independent School District. It serves approximately 825 students in 6th through 8th grade with 80 staff members.
Academically, Travis MS stands out among surrounding school districts as one of 5 middle schools in the ESC III region which have achieved the Texas Education Agency’s “Recognized” status for the 2011-2012 scholastic year. TMS uses a variety of approaches to enhance the academic, athletic and inter-personal / social skills and activities of its student populations.
Some of the available activities and organizations include:
Relay for Life, 7th/ 8th Cheerleaders, Landscaping and Design, G3 (Going Green Group), Band, Choir, National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), Yearbook Staff, Math Counts (Competitive Math Organization), Water Watchers (Ecological Watch group), ZAP (Zeros Aren’t Permitted), Tutorial Program, and the Mentoring / Tutoring programs (in conjunction with Partners In Education).
Athletic opportunities include: Golf, Tennis, Volleyball, Track, Basketball and Football. Travis MS athletic programs have consistently proven successful in the sports arena with frequent District Championships.
