JR Students were treated to an author visit from Dr. Patty Shafer. Dr. Shafer grew up in Calhoun County and worked for the school district for many years. After retiring from education, she began to write stories about her dog, Annie. "Annie the Texas Ranch Dog" series is based on a half-starved Pit Bull Mix that wandered up to the author's ranch and became a member of their family. Killdeer at JR. While at recess one day some of our students were very concerned about a bird that was hurt. As I got closer I realized that it was a Killdeer pair and that they were protecting their eggs from the large group of first graders playing near by.
