Port Lavaca, Texas, is the home to HJM Elementary School, located on the Gulf Coast between Houston and Corpus Christi. Our goal is to prepare children to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world and develop responsible, concerned, contributing members of society by providing a student-centered environment which promotes lifelong skills.
HJM is a progressive school that serves children from Early Childhood through the Fifth Grade. The school is involved in many educational initiatives including a Micro-Community called Sharktown U.S.A
In a Micro-Community, teachers, students, parents, business partners, and community members collaborate to create a functioning society inside the schoolhouse. Students are given the opportunity to develop lifelong skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking and problem solving. Students of Sharktown learn first hand how to run their own banks, businesses, shops and government procedures. The necessary skills needed to operate the community are learned “on the job” as well as in the classroom.
HJM is proud to offer enrichment activities including, Pre-Algebra, Choir, Student Council, Chess Club, and Young Astronauts.
