No injuries were reported this morning after a vehicle made contact with the rear-end of Calhoun County ISD school bus  #7 on Hwy. 238, approximately four miles from Hwy 316.

The bus involved had stopped to pick up a passenger on its regular morning route to take students to Travis Middle School and Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca. There were 44 passengers on the bus at the time of the accident. The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m.

Calhoun County ISD officials, Calhoun County EMS, Calhoun County Sherriff’s Department, and a Department of Public Safety Trooper responded to the accident. No injuries were reported at the scene, and no one was transported for medical attention from the scene.

Per standard district protocol, a substitute driver and bus completed the route for the primary driver who was involved with the incident. Also per standard protocol, the driver involved in the incident has been taken for post-incident testing and to complete some additional internal reporting.

Upon initial assessment, it appears the bus’s tail pipe was slightly damaged.

The accident is under investigation by the Department of Public Safety.

“We appreciate our local agencies for their response and support,” said Dr. James Cowley, Superintendent of Schools.  “The safety and care of our students, staff and community is always of highest concern, particularly during these types of emergency situations.”
