No injuries were reported Tuesday after a vehicle made contact with the rear-end of Calhoun County ISD school bus #213 on Sweetwater Road.

The bus involved had turned right onto Sweetwater Road from FM 2433 on its regular afternoon route. There were four passengers on the bus at the time of the incident.

Calhoun County ISD officials, Calhoun County EMS, Calhoun County Sherriff’s Department and the Port Lavaca Fire Department responded to the accident. No injuries were reported at the scene, and no one was transported for medical attention from the scene.

The passengers were released directly to their parents, as the location of the incident was close to their homes. A substitute driver and bus was not necessary.

Per standard district protocol, the driver involved in the incident was taken for post-incident testing and to complete some additional internal reporting.

Upon initial assessment of the bus, it appears there may be some damage to the bumper.

The driver of the other vehicle involved was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.

“We appreciate the partnership we have with our local agencies in responding promptly to any situation involving the safety and care of our students, said Dr. James Cowley, Superintendent of Schools.
