Students and staff at Seadrift School have safely evacuated the main school building, due to a detection of natural gas.

Students and staff are currently located at their designated evacuation points, both inside the gymnasium and outside the campus.

The building is being monitored and fans have been set up inside the building.

An early review of the incident has connected the source of the gas with some work that had recently been conducted on equipment located in the cafeteria.

A complete investigation is underway.

“The safety and security of our students, staff and community is always Calhoun County ISD’s top priority,” said Dr. James Cowley, Superintendent of Schools. “Thank you to our staff both at Seadrift School and with our Maintenance Department for their prompt response to this situation.”
